General & pricing

Is there really no cost involved?

In deregulated areas — about 90% of Texas building sites — there are no fees or charges payable to UtilityOn. Our costs are covered by Retailer subsidies when homeowners sign up for an electricity plan through our platform.

In regulated areas (approximately 10% of Texas), we charge $100 per home for electric and $100 per home for gas, invoiced once the meter installation is scheduled.

You're still responsible for any utility or retailer fees for the actual provision of the meter itself.

OK… so what's the catch?

No catch. Licensed Retail Electricity Providers (Think Energy, Champion, Iron Horse, APG&E, etc.) pay us a small fee when one of your homeowners signs up with them. That fee funds our service.

We're a licensed broker, so the homeowner sees competitive rates across multiple retailers, not a single captive deal.

Which utilities do you work with?

Deregulated electric (free): AEP Central, AEP North, Centerpoint, LP&L, Oncor, TNMP.

Regulated electric & co-ops ($100/home): Austin Energy, Bluebonnet, Brownsville PUB, Bryan Texas Utilities, CPS Energy, CoServ, College Station Utilities, Denton Power Company, Entergy, Farmers Electric, Grayson-Collin, HILCO, Lamar Electric, Magic Valley, MidSouth, Navarro County, Nueces Electric, Sam Houston EC, San Bernard, San Patricio, Tri-County, Trinity Valley — plus any other regulated area on request.

Natural gas ($100/home): Atmos Energy, Centerpoint Energy, CPS Energy.

Do you do gas too?

Yes. Gas connections are a flat $100 per home — the same rate as regulated electric. We handle Atmos Energy, Centerpoint Energy, and CPS Energy.

Same dashboard, same team, same process — just select gas when you submit the lot.

Have you won any industry awards?

UtilityOn won the TAB Star Award for Best Business Solution at the Sunbelt Builders Show, Fort Worth TX, July 2023 — and we were the runner-up in 2024.

We're also rated ⭐ 5.0 on Google from our Texas builder customers.

Where is UtilityOn based?

We're based in Houston, Texas — 3050 Post Oak Blvd, Suite 510 — with a mostly-remote team across the state. UtilityOn Texas LLC is a licensed broker with the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT registration BR220024).

Can you organize new electricity meter connections outside Texas?

Not today. We're focused entirely on Texas so we can stay deeply fluent with every utility here. If you're building in other states, let us know — we keep a list.

How do I track the progress of each meter?

Each meter moves along this series of color-coded status tags:

Meter lifecycle status tags: ESI-ID requested, temp meter requested, temp meter on site, and more.

Before you either close the temp account (with optional swingover to perm):

Account close lifecycle status tags.

…or transfer the perm account to your homeowner clients:

Account transfer lifecycle status tags.

We update you by email at each step, but the easiest way to track every meter at a glance is the dashboard connections list:

Dashboard showing list of meters.
Can I import electricity meters already arranged outside UtilityOn?

Yes. It's easy to import all your existing meters into UtilityOn so you can track and manage everything in one place. All imported meters get access to our free expert support team too.

Just sign up, then let us know you'd like to import your meters and we'll take it from there.

How much time and money will I save with UtilityOn?

Builders typically save 3+ hours per site in utility admin — on average about $130 per site in labor at a $52k/yr construction manager salary.

20 homes/year ≈ $2,600 saved · 100 homes/year ≈ $13,000 · 500 homes/year ≈ $65,000.

Can I request new electricity meters under different company names?

Yes. When submitting a request you can specify the company name that should be on record with the utility. Useful for builders operating multiple subsidiaries or entities.

For custom builders

Can you help connect anything besides new electricity meters?

We do electric and gas today — same dashboard, same process. Water and broadband are on the roadmap; tell us which you need most and it'll bump it up.
